THE WINTER SOLDIER AND THE SUNSHINE TRAITOR:

GOP 2004: Moore May Not Return to MSG (Joe Strupp, August 31, 2004, Editor & Publisher)

Following all the commotion Monday night, Michael Moore may not return to Madison Square Garden for the Republican National Convention. According to editors at USA Today, which is publishing his daily column this week, Moore told them that he was choosing not to return again.

However, they said he would continue to write his daily column and they stressed that in no way did they second-guess their decision to have him write the commentary.

But on Tuesday afternoon, Moore e-mailed E&P to clarify his position, saying that he may return to the convention and that it is his "right as a writer to be there."

A soul tried and found wanting?

Based on what went down upstairs at the Garden on Monday, perhaps Moore can hire Al Franken to be his bodyguard (almost makes me sorry I didn't tune into either Laura Ingram's show or Air America on Tuesday for the SportsCenter wrap-ups).

Is this the same USA Today that booted Ann Coulter from the Demo convention, after ONE column?

Dave,

And they didn't even run Coulter's. OTOH, they had no problem putting Moore's column into print.

Of course, they self-promotional rewards that both got are inestimable: Coulter can say her writing is too hot for USA Today (and by inference, the entire mainstream media), and Moore can say he was booed by the entire Republican convention. And they'll both take those to the bank.

Waiter, send a bottle of wine to Mr. Moore's table. A red "Fat Bastard" would be a nice selection.

genecis -

How "apropos" in both a descriptive and derivative sense!
