GOTCHA! GOTCHA, GOTCHA!
McDonald's salad fattier than burger (Reuters, 3/9/04)
LONDON -- Global hamburger giant McDonald's latest line in healthy looking salads may contain more fat than its hamburgers, according to the company's Web site.. . . .The next obese person to walk into a McDonalds and eat nothing but one hamburger will be the first. Posted by David Cohen at March 11, 2004 10:35 AM[C]onsumers hoping to lose weight by switching from burgers to salads may be disappointed, according to the Interactive Nutrition Counter on the McDonald's Web site.
For example, on the new menu to be launched at the end of this month, a "Caesar salad with Chicken Premiere" contains 18.4 grams of fat compared with 11.5 grams of fat in a standard cheeseburger.
Yep.
Still, cutting the bad carbs from the bread can't hurt. There are benefits to salads over burgers that have nothing to do with fat.

Posted by: kevin whited at March 11, 2004 2:32 PMI had dinner at a Benihana recently. (I know, not the best choice with all the great restaurants around here, but circumstances dictated.) Also at the table was a family of three, and both parents were 200+ lbs. I couldn't help but notice that the wife ordered a big entree (steak and shrimp), fried rice instead of regular, but a Diet Coke. Got to watch those calories, you know!

I do something similar all the time. Would you dietary rationalists please go play in the traffic. "I couldn't help but notice..." doesn't fool me, Mrs. Kravitz.

It certainly is a logically conflicted choice, to have a diet drink with a big meal.
But, the bottom line is that an overweight person, if they're going to have a soft drink anyhow, is better off not having a 300 calorie one, regardless of what else they order.
> I drink Diet Coke because it tastes better.
Thus we see the depravity of man.
