LUNACY ISN'T BIGOTRY:

Obama and the bigots (Nicholas D. Kristof, March 9, 2008, NY Times)

The whispering campaigns allege that Obama is a secret Muslim planning to impose Islamic law on the country.

Incredibly, he is even accused - in earnest! - of being the Antichrist. Proponents of this theory offer detailed theological explanations for why he is the Antichrist, and the proof is that he claims to be Christian - after all, the Antichrist would say that, wouldn't he? The rumors circulate enough that Glenn Beck of CNN asked the Rev. John Hagee, a conservative evangelical, what the odds are that Obama is the Antichrist.

You can understand why a liberal would want such a rumor to be bigotry, but how explain the exact same rumor about Ronald Wilson Reagan? About whom it was noted, with great care but little contact with sanity, that each of the three parts of his name was six letters, thus rendering: 666.

May we not just say that Effendi Obama's background gives rise to such doubts as would restain a reasonable person from acting on a matter of grave importance in his own affairs?

You mean 6+6+6, because 6x6x6 = 216.

I remember many Penetcostals ranting about Reagan and his full name ("666"). Perhaps Mike Huckabee was one of them, back in the day. And Jimmy certainly did his best to fan those flames, now didn't he?

That should be Pentecostals, of course.
