A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO DO HUGO:

Bush pledges support for Colombia: As border tensions in the region escalate, the president says the U.S. will stand by the country in its fight against "narco-terrorists." (Johanna Neuman, 3/04/08, Los Angeles Times)

Criticizing "provocative maneuvers" by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and a "continuing assault by narco-terrorists," Bush said he called Colombia President President Alvaro Uribe today to reassure him of continued U.S. backing.

"I told the president that America fully supports Colombia's democracy, and that we firmly oppose any acts of aggression that could destabilize the region," Bush said in a statement. "I told him that America will continue to stand with Colombia as it confronts violence and terror and fights drug traffickers."

Boy, we could use a fake provocation on that border.

Venezuela looks tough on paper, but so did that other Hussein, Saddam. Sure, they have some old Russian knock-offs, but when we come 'round with a few guns, they will know what they must do. It will be like the Mahdi Army charging the Maxims.

Here, all we need is a sufficiently motivated Venezuelan officer(s). I'll bet Hugo has his own private goons providing security, not anyone connected to the army. Kill them all.

I'd love to see 'em get a workout down south.
