UNLESS THEY CAN RETREAT FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF SOUND...:

Dems back off on Iraq demands (Martin Kady II, Dec 5, 2007, Politico)

Each day lately, Democrats inch closer to giving President Bush more money for the war in Iraq without any serious mandates for withdrawing U.S. troops.

Democratic leaders are loath to acknowledge they’ve backed off, but lawmakers from both sides of the aisle, as well as congressional aides, say Democrats are trying to find a way to provide continued troop funding while searching for some compromises that show they’re still intent on challenging the president on the war.

...they'll still hear the banjo music as they run...

While I do not believe it would happen, the position the Democrats have chosen is so fragile and so clearly wrong, that a few simple statements from Gen. Petraeus about the situation in Iraq would eviscerate them.

And just how would Hillary suspend that?

They really are in the box (again).

The reason the Dems have not yet funded the funding for war is because Hiallry is afraid of a recorded vote at this time. They are waiting for Hillary to clinch the nomination.
