THE BEAUTY OF THE WMD DUSTUP...:

Thompson: "We learned how bad our intelligence is" (STEPHEN BEALE, 11/05/07, Manchester Union Leader)

Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson today said America cannot be a global policeman, but it must remain the world’s leader.

The Republican presidential hopeful and former actor warned that America is facing a global war on terror that transcends the ongoing conflict in Iraq. He warned that Iran had developed several thousand nuclear centrifuges and was well on its way toward acquiring fissile material.

“Nobody knows exactly when that might be,” Thompson said at a Politics and Eggs breakfast at the Bedford Village Inn. “We don’t know how good our intelligence is. That’s one of the pitiful things that is known as the aftermath of Iraq. We learned how bad our intelligence is.”

“It just goes to show you how wrong we can be. We can’t afford to be that wrong in the future with regard to who’s doing what in the world. "

...is the way it mandates greater hawkishness.

The flimsier the pretext, the greater the didactic value of the action.
