YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP:

No Guns founder pleads not guilty to gun charges (LA Times, June 22, 2007)

The founder of an antiviolence group called No Guns pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal weapons charges.

Hector "Big Weasel" Marroquin is accused of selling an assault rifle, a machine gun, two pistols and two silencers to undercover federal agents last fall. He could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

I had known of the case pending against this guy. Actually, this is rather common. Anti-gun types are mostly phoney hypocrites. They might be gun owners themselves, or associate with gun owners. If wealthy enough, they employ bodguardsa for the protection the rest of us are meant to do without.

It's a politcal game. The trick is to appear to be doing something about "crime," while not offending the criminal classes included in the leftist constituency.

"The Shield" had a long sequence on this storyline, which drove one of the characters to betray the others.
