DOES ANYONE EDIT THE TIMES?:
Hamas consolidates hold on Gaza (Isabel Kershner and Steven Erlanger, June 14, 2007, NY Times)
Hamas came close to completing its conquest of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, taking over the pro-Fatah military intelligence headquarters in Gaza and, more significantly, the Preventive Security compound in the city, long one of the most potent and hated symbols to Hamas of the Fatah ancien régime.
Ancien regime? It's not even a nation yet. Fatah was just the more powerful band of thugs...briefly. Posted by Orrin Judd at June 14, 2007 3:58 PM
C'mon - they just wanted to show off (and they probably don't know what dirigisme means), so they dropped that in there.
Plus, the Times has to be disappointed. Israel doesn't look so immoral when Hamas is killing 10 men at a time in front of their wives and children.
I wonder why there hasn't been much comment on the other 'factions' (Islamic Jihad, Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade, the PFLP, the Mighty Right Arm of Allah, and the Yarmulke Crushers. Are all the other gangs in hiding? Have they chosen sides?

Say what?...
Anyway, the article's been edited. No more "ancien regime." I guess they got too many corrections from people who actually know what it means.
