AT LEAST THEY CAN MAKE SURE THERE'S LESS WEALTH DISTRIBUTED UNEVENLY:

The Democrats' economic wish list: They'd like a minimum wage hike and expanded healthcare and education programs, but need to find funding first. (David R. Francis, 12/04/06, CS Monitor)

Because the size of the government in the United States is relatively small compared with that of most other industrial nations, changes in government policies can have only limited impact on the distribution of income.

Presumably the Democrats will "do things that mitigate rather than exacerbate inequality," [Alan] Blinder holds. They won't cut the taxes of the rich as much as the Republican-led Congress did.

There's a political battle cry for you.

Michael Medved Friday - huge tax cut to the rich, allowing deductibility of college costs.

Lower end basically gets squat, 10%, upper gets 35%.

FoxNews had a free-for-all yesterday AM, Zeropeans betting against the $ - someone actually pointed out their debt 2x the size of ours - and also pointed out their unemployment, especially frogistan.

Somewhat off-topic: I heard Karl Kastle announce on NPR this AM that stocks in Toyko were DOWN, and I thought, hmmm, sounds like quite a drop. Then he said the Nikkei was down 18 points.

Which is like a 12 point drop for the Dow.

NPR is shameless.

Want to talk about real inflation?

Real inflation would be if you had to work more minutes to afford something than your dad or granddad did. No one wants to talk about it because it makes our whining too obviously ridiculous.
