HYPOCRISY LIES IN DECRYING BEHAVIOR YOU APPROVE OF:

Haggard, Foley and GOP Preach Against the Vices They Can't Shake (Nathaniel Frank, November 4, 2006, HuffingtonPost.com)

The Republican Party appears to be chock full of people who make a life of preaching against the very vices they can't shake. Why?

One hardly looks to the Left for deep moral understanding or theological insight, but you'd think they'd grasp that the essence of Judeo-Christianity is that men are sinners no matter their good intentions. What separates the religious from the secular is not behavior itself so much as the knowledge that behavior like that of Foley, Haggard, etc., is evil.

The people screaming about Foley and Haggard are also the same ones who believe if only they can get George W. Bush out of office, we'll have no future problems with redical Islamists who are offended by the mere sight of a woman not in a burka, let alone a society whose leaders on the left feel there's no moral difference between gay and straight sexual relationships.

I have never got the !Hypocrisy!, thing.

Obviously, there is a small but incredibly vocal faction that it just drives up the wall.

For the life of me I just don't understand why.

The left assumes that we can achieve righteousness by ourselves, while the right assumes that it is a gift of God. History, as always, supports the position of the right.

Pepys:

Because they think it better to believe that there's no such thing as sin and do whatever you want t6han to accept God's word on sin along with the harsh reality that you'll still fall prey to it.

Isn't there a quote in the Bible to the effect that "the violence of your protest against my laws shows that you know in your heart they are just"?

First, in the "evangelical" community, nobody knows who this Haggard guy is. He is not, as the pros would say, a player. He might be a wannabe.

Second, is William Jefferson campaigning in black churches? There's a good story to report, if he has the nerve.

Third, as long as Robert Byrd (or Teddy) is a Senator, the Left has no authority to moralize on anything.

Fourth, I'm surprised no one on the Left told McGreevey last year not to quit. Why wasn't there a boomlet in his favor? After all, being gay is no crime and in their world it is a badge of honor.

But, gay-bashing by the Left is all the rage now. I wouldn't want to be Barney's latest escort.

Pepys - perhaps you are thinking of Psalm 2 ("why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?").
