ORDERING THE DISORDERED:
Gays at Globe told to marry or lose benefits (Jesse Noyes, July 8, 2006, Boston Herald)
Memo to Boston Globe gay and lesbian Guild employees: Get married or lose your domestic partner benefits.
Globe staffers have been told that health and dental benefits for gay employees’ domestic partners are being discontinued. Gay couples who want to keep their benefits must marry by Jan. 1.
Gotta love the law of unintended consequences. Posted by Orrin Judd at July 8, 2006 9:09 AM
I was going to snark at the Globe. But darn, I can't come up with anything better than the quoted headline.
What avails the classic bent
And what the cultured word
Against the unvarnished incident
That actually occurred?
You know the Globe is either getting sued over this one to keep both options open, or some of the employees with same-sex partners are moving to New Hampshire ("Live Free of Marriage or Die") or Rhode Island so they can say they don't have the marriage option within their home state and need to maintain their current benefit system.
