Any theories on why all the linguists seem to be gay?

There's only one reason soldiers learn languages, and in the middle east it doesn't work for the straight guys.

All the linguists aren't gay. The queers make a big deal about the ones who are to advance their agenda by pointing to a few cases of homosexual Arabic translators on the theory that the public will find the needs of the GWOT to outweigh the mos maiorum.

The NSA and CIA are looking for cunning linguists also, even if the US military isn't.

This was pretty unfair though. By all accounts he was doing his job well and his service record shows that he was a good soldier. He was holding up his end of 'don't ask, don't tell', his sexuality was kept strictly separate from his work and no one knew he was gay. Considering the number of conservative armchair warriors (including myself) who endorse this war without doing a thing personally to help it, chucking this poor guy out is pretty rich.

For the army to allow some anonymous scumbag to throw him out of his job by an email campaign is ugly and unjust, and it throws the whole DADT policy into disrepute. DADT is a two way street, if he agrees not to tell the army agrees not to ask. It’s the army who broke faith here.

Is it possible that his homosexuality was only an excuse for dismissing him because of his biased, perhaps muslim, mistranslations?

If the Arabs were alligned with us vs the Turks he'd still have a job. A regular T.E. Lawrence, not that there's anything wrong with that.

There's absolutely no proof that Lawrence was a homosexual. I read the musings of one psychologist who thought that Lawrence was so adverse to human touch that it was likely he had no sexual impulse whatsoever.
