HALF RICHARD, HALF NUREYEV
Ovechkin engraves name in NHL history (CBC Sports, April 11th, 2006)
Hockey experts knew Washington Capitals rookie Alexander Ovechkin would be good – but little did they know just how good the young Russian star would be.On Monday, Ovechkin got his 100th point in style, scoring a goal with 90 seconds left in overtime to give the Capitals a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins.
He became the first rookie to amass 100 points in a season since Joe Juneau and Teemu Selanne accomplished the feat during the 1992-93 campaign. [...]
Ovechkin has dazzled hockey watchers with his blazing speed, slick puck-handling ability and accurate shot.
His highlight-reel goals have become a staple on sports channels and fuel for water-cooler conversation. Earlier this year, Ovechkin scored one of the most spectacular goals in hockey history – while on his back.
Sit back and be dazzled.
Pure roaring tear-filled joy at watching that goal. There aren't words...and I could care less about hockey. Blinding greatness. Haven't felt those chills since Jordan started to hammer his way through the Pistons.
Posted by: Palmcroft at April 11, 2006 8:58 PMAbsolutely amazing. I'm no hockey fan, but I would be if it was played that way all the time and the scores were 7-5 instead of 2-1.
Posted by: Patrick H at April 11, 2006 9:16 PMHoly smokes! The impressive thing isn't just the moves, which I don't think I've ever seen better, but that he appears to like physical contact as much as someone like Trottier, rare in a scorer.
Posted by: oj at April 11, 2006 11:12 PMHockey has some fantastic rookies this year. Crosby in Pittsburgh is as tough and talented as they come, and Phaneuf in Calgary is the real deal -- big, fast and a "cannonating" shot.

However, part of me wants to call you a traitor for playing this up because this guy's not an American.
This is the mindset I see when i read the political blogs.
