GLOBALIZING GORE V. BUSH
Centre-left claims Italy victory (BBC, 4/11/06)
The latest results from Italy's general election point to a narrow victory for centre-left leader Romano Prodi.But Italy is in a state of political confusion as the margin is razor thin - just 49.8% against 49.7% for the ruling centre-right in the lower house.
An official projection shows a slim majority in the Senate - the upper house - for Mr Prodi's bloc.
But Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's coalition is disputing the results and refusing to concede defeat.

Glad to see you called this post "Globalizing Bush vs. Gore" -- this has been a theory of mine as well. Another outstanding example was the Taiwan presidential election two years ago. Lien Chan might as well have had the Democrat party machine advising him. Same thing happened, though ... it didn't work. I guess this is the legacy of Bush vs. Gore that we should be thankful for: Gore's attempt to steal an election failed. Mind you, an identical strategy succeeded in the Washington State governor's race last time around (albeit Gregoire has ruled in a shadow of illegitimacy).
