Wonder Bread that's good for you?

It's... it's diabolical, I say!

My kid loves the Texas toast in the morning.

Good for froggie toast, too!

Don't forget to add a splash of vanilla to the mix.

Brown Wonder Bread? Tom Tancredo is going to have a fit over this one.

Wow! Wonder how many more ways than 12 a wheat version will help build strong bodies. Greatest thing since sliced bread!

Ah memories of wonderbread with a load of dry peanut butter globbed on and a cold glass of milk after school. Thanks for the memories.

Can the whole-wheat Twinkie be far behind?

Posted by: joe shropshire at January 25, 2006 2:34 PM

It's not that earth shattering since Wonder already makes a wheat bread.

Joe:

Twinkies, the immortal snack. If it is possible to have negative nutritional value, then they certainly do. Wish I had one now.

Growing up I was a Colonial White Bread kid. No other. Mom ate that "Roman Meal" stuff -- gahh!!

Twinkies -- I think the salient truth (or myth) about them, when I was a kid, was the neato fact that they weren't actually baked. They were generated through some chemical reaction that didn't involve cooking or heat. Kinda like cold fusion.

Supposedly, though this is whole wheat, the color and texture remain true to the Wonder tradition!

Any of you guys ever try Yankee Doodles? Twinkies were for wimps and girls.

Yankee Doodles yum....

Bologna and yellow mustard on Wonder Bread! Gourmet eating at its best!

I had a rough childhood. Mom insisted on this drab, dry whole wheat stuff that started to age within hours, while all the cool kids had this wonderful Wonder Bread that I was denied. It took years of therapy in later life to work out the significance---she really didn't love me.

I recall reading that at one time Wonder
was considered quite a progressive food in that
it had vitamins added and had a good shelf life.
Now of course it's look down upon like
mass-produced bar soaps and other
products that helped the working class live
more like the middle class.

Something tells me that kid's in the 20's through
50's ate more oatmeal and such so the whole
no-fiber argument against Wonderbread wasn't
much of an issue.

J.H.- don't forget the Cod Liver oil. We ate so healthy, we needed Wonder Bread to balance us off.
