IT'S THE 21ST CENTURY--NO MORE TRIBAL AREAS, HUH?:

Many die in Pakistan tribal clash (BBC, 1/11/06)

Seven Pakistani troops and 14 suspected militants have died in fierce fighting on the Afghan border, the army says.

The soldiers died in a rocket attack on an army post in the North Waziristan tribal area. Troops returned fire, killing 14 militants, the army said.

This is where the genuinely hard fighting of the WoT will occur.

7 allied, 14 enemy KIA--a veritable Paschendaele.

The true irony is that the tribals areas are mostly God-forsaken high desert wasteland. The "tribes" are criminal gangs related by blood who eke out a subsistence by robbing others.

Kill Gulbiddin Heykmatyr - tonight. And perhaps 5 or 10 other warlords. The other bearded loons will start drifting around, not knowing what to do next.

Conversely, we could annex Waziristan, and make it a US Army proving ground. Or a nuclear test site. Or a ski resort, complete with snowboarding bunnies in pink.

BTW, I wonder why the media hasn't played up the reports that Osama died last month in Iran? A bit nettlesome for them, if true.
