THE EVIL IN THEIR MIDST:
Religions target female foeticide (Geeta Pandey, 11/12/05, BBC News)
A caravan of 25 vehicles and 200 people has been criss-crossing five northern and western states of India for the past 10 days. The travellers are on a mission. They are campaigning against female foeticide, which has resulted in a gender imbalance in some parts of the country. [...]
The campaign covers some of the areas which have the worst gender ratio in India - Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and Gujarat. All of these states have less than 800 girls for every 1,000 boys.
"The crime has come to acquire such dangerous proportions in our society that the government is feeling very helpless. They think that unless people from the world of religion come forward and join hands and march together, the problem cannot be solved," says Swami Agnivesh.
He says religious leaders of various faiths, including Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Jainism, are participating in the march.
The "humanitarian" Left can, of course, have nothing coherent to say about this, because abortion is a right to them, but the religious will have to force the Reform of such barbaric practices if India is to fulfill its promise of becoming a great nation. This little cunumdrum came up about 20 years ago, when the single child policy in China really took hold and families started aborting their baby girls, or even killing them after birth, if they were born before a boy. But the situation was given at best lip service by the pro-abortion groups, and at the 1995 UN International Women's Conference in Beijing, the focus was on expanding abortion rights, even though the feminists gathering there could not have known what gender their host nation was predominantly aborting.
So even if those same groups speak up about the sitaution in India today, it would probably only be to demand gender equality in abortion rates, not an end to aborting both genders.

Posted by: John at November 12, 2005 11:13 AMCould this not be the beginnings of a new type of nation, made up of Indian and Chinese males who cannot find brides? Let them set up individual househilds in pairs - and call the new country:
GAY-O-STAN.

But only the passive side will be truly gay, right?
Posted by: ratbert at November 12, 2005 2:42 PMDo we revile the memory of the Nazis beause they murdered Poles and Jews or because they murdered?
Would we curse them less if they murdered Norwegians and French in the same fashion?
To excuse murder that is equal opportunity murder trivializes murder.
We revile them because we fought them.
