The interesting thing is that while much of the media takes Free Republic as both the official voice of the right in America and a bunch of out-of-touch moonbats, they actually get story ideas from Kos or the DU site, and never bother to mention many of the more bizzare postings by members of those websites, or consider that they may represent the official voice of the left in America.

There is no real "mainstream conversation" about politics right now. This is not an election year. And next year is only a congressional election year. Most normal people aren't thinking about politics much at all. As a result, the "conversation" involves obsessives yelling at each other over the internet.

Not only are people not talking politics, nobody (outside the MSM and blogs) is talking Katrina. I haven't heard a Katrina discussion in at least a week. Most of my friends are dems (how could it be any different here in King County) and they just don't seem interested.
