A Chicago Alderman's Proposal to Ban Foie Gras Stirs Up a Debate (GRETCHEN RUETHLING, 9/14/05, NY Times)
This city is considering a proposal to trim fatty goose and duck livers from the menus of Chicago restaurants, stirring debate over whether it has a right to tell people what they can put on their plates."Our laws are a reflection of our culture," said Joe Moore, an alderman who has proposed banning the sale of foie gras in the city, as he addressed the council's health committee on Tuesday. "Our culture does not condone the torture of innocent and defenseless creatures. And we as a society believe all God's creatures should be treated humanely."
Foie gras, which means "fatty liver" in French and is most commonly served in upscale restaurants, is produced by force-feeding grain to ducks and geese several times a day through a pipe that is inserted in their throats, causing their livers to expand up to 10 times their normal size within weeks.
Mr. Moore's sentiments are noble and on the day after Chicago bans abortion and euthanasia within the city limits it should take up the treatment of geese. Posted by Orrin Judd at September 19, 2005 12:33 PM
Before abortion and euthanasia, maybe they should withdraw all their troops from Iraq. Oh, and eating all meat. And killing multicellular organism with no nervours system. I guess that means plants for that matter too. Wait a second, what's the difference between an embyro and a multicellular organism? OJ, you are such a good person that you can stick up for the embryo while soldiers murder thousands in other countries? Is it only murder if it happens in the US? Do you even care? are you crazy? or just stupid?
Posted by: at September 19, 2005 4:52 PMAccording to a recent article in Time magazine, many Frenchmen maintain that the geese are not harmed by having huge quantities of food shoved down their throats, and they may even find it enjoyable.

As David Cohen said in another thread, their comments are valuable in illustrating their juvenile thought. For example, the comment "Do you even care? are you crazy? or just stupid?" perfectly summarizes their analytic ability: anyone who disagrees is either unfeeling, insane, or stupid. (It also illustrates their lack of grammatical training.)
