CO-OPTING THE BALD EAGLE IS BRILLIANT:
Nationals unveil their mascot (Associated Press, 4/17/05)
The Washington Nationals hatched their new mascot about 25 minutes before their victory over Arizona on Sunday: Screech, an oversized baby eagle.
The other symbol it would make sense for them to use is Uncle Sam. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 18, 2005 6:28 AM

Posted by: pchuck at April 18, 2005 10:48 AMBeats the heck out of having a small flying insect that annoys you at summer picnics as your mascot, I guess.

Posted by: jim hamlen at April 18, 2005 12:45 PMIs it only going to be a "chick" temporarily? Seems like a nice tough mature bald eagle would be better.

Posted by: at April 18, 2005 4:14 PMImmature? Bald eagles don't develop white heads and tails until they are fully mature - 3-4 years I believe.
