CO-OPTING THE BALD EAGLE IS BRILLIANT:

Nationals unveil their mascot (Associated Press, 4/17/05)

The Washington Nationals hatched their new mascot about 25 minutes before their victory over Arizona on Sunday: Screech, an oversized baby eagle.

The other symbol it would make sense for them to use is Uncle Sam.

Beats the heck out of having a small flying insect that annoys you at summer picnics as your mascot, I guess.

It should be named Mork.

Is it only going to be a "chick" temporarily? Seems like a nice tough mature bald eagle would be better.

"Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to beat you."

I saw this guy lying in the street amd ranting incoherently outside a Montreal tavern the other day. Very sad.

Immature? Bald eagles don't develop white heads and tails until they are fully mature - 3-4 years I believe.
