TALK THE TALK, DON'T WALK THE WALK:
Police Probe Allegation Against Bill Cosby (AP, 1/21/05)
A female acquaintance of comedian Bill Cosby (news) has made an allegation against him that has prompted a police investigation in Pennsylvania, the entertainer's attorney said Thursday.Attorney Walter Phillips said he spoke Thursday with authorities in Pennsylvania who told him they have begun an investigation. He would not discuss the specifics of the allegation — which he called "utterly preposterous" — but said it amounts to, at the most, "inappropriate touching."
No charges have been brought against Cosby. Phillips said the accuser, who lives in Canada, knows Cosby and the alleged incident in question happened about a year ago.
One would hope he didn't think he needed to act like a Civil Rights leader in order to be a leader in the black community. Posted by Orrin Judd at January 21, 2005 8:09 AM
My first thought was "frame-up". It's my second thought too. It's payback time for "Cos". No good deed goes unpunished if the civil rights whores have anything to say about it.
Posted by: NC3 at January 21, 2005 11:12 AMConsidering the ease with which a man's reputation can be ruined by merely making accusations of inappropriateness, might we entertain the possibility that Mr. Cosby is innocent of any wrongdoing?
It doesn't matter, as the Spanish say, when you throw mud, something always sticks regardless of the surface.
"And you in there ... Hikky Burr."
Posted by: george at January 21, 2005 12:40 PMI had the same reaction as NC3 - Cos is causing trouble for the liberal NAACP types so out of nowhere comes an accusation of sexual harassment. My hope is that Cos' message is heard but if this is indeed a slander against Cos it shows the old guard won't change easily.
Posted by: AWW at January 21, 2005 1:29 PMIt gets tedious to see people on a purportedly conservative website extolling the virtues of the racist adulterer Cosby, because in order to preserve what few shards are left of his dying career he gave an attention-getting speech to the NAACP.
When he sends a formal written apology to each and every one of the white stagehands he tried to fire from The Cosby Show in his salad days, then give me a call. Otherwise, I hope this bimbo takes him to the cleaners.
Posted by: Bart at January 21, 2005 1:38 PMCosby does have a reputation. Does that reputation contradict the charges in this case?
Posted by: h-man at January 22, 2005 6:41 AMBart I don't know much about Cosby's past but I do know how people get revenge. I'm sure glad no one has stepped forward to pay me back for my racist feelings and the times I've taken advantage of women. Possibly you don't have these issues but then again maybe you do and it's just that you don't have enough money to make digging it up worthwhile.
Cosby, with all his faults was a genius and did more with his comedy to change the hearts and minds of White people than did MLK's entire body of Black Liberation Theology. Where MLK failed and did measurable harm to the Black community, Cosby succeeded. If you measure a man by his enemies then by that measure Cosby not MLK comes out on top.
Posted by: NC3 at January 22, 2005 8:04 AMWhat Cosby did was play to the dumber sections of Middle America, a place where Bob Hope was considered funny and intellectual, a place where people wouldn't know humor if it came and bit them on the ass. His career was entirely the result of his skin color, his raison d'etre was that a particularly dopey subgenre of White person could listen to his horrid, vapid storytelling and feel that by buying this imbecile's records or books that they were somehow enlightened on racial matters. He repeated material provided to him by writers who weren't sophisticated enough to work for Hanna-Barbera and foisted it off as somehow edgy or original in his minstrel-show Bob Hope act. But that probably worked for an audience that thought that Ed Sullivan was the height of sophistication.
Of course he was successful on commercial network TV, which no one who can afford cable spends any time watching.
He couldn't hold Richard Pryor's or Eddie Murphy's or Flip Wilson's jockstraps, let alone that of Redd Foxx.
Posted by: Bart at January 22, 2005 2:43 PMHis role in I, Spy was nearly as significant as Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier and his assistance to Melvin Van Peebles helped establish black cinema.
Posted by: oj at January 22, 2005 3:17 PMThere were 100 actors who would have been at least as good in the role. The role was the long overdue breakthrough not the actor. It wasn't a Jackie Robinson situation where he had to deal with a hostile audience, umpires and teammates. Everyone wanted Cosby to succeed. Significance was the Uhura-Kirk kiss because that engendered significant audience negative response.
The money for 'Black Cinema' came from Hollywood, and being responsible for Melvin van Peebles is as worthy of honor as being responsible for Edward Wood.
Posted by: Bart at January 22, 2005 3:28 PMNo, it was the actor, precisely because he was that odd combination of amiability and dignity.

Hey Bartman, what Leftist Elitist [Nit]wit did you steal that line from? Oh, you made it up all by yourself. How clever of you. Oh by the way Prior, Fox and Murphy were just dirty, not all that clever and not all that funny.
You really hate the guy don't you? Why do I get the feeling he jumped one of your old girlfriends?
