WORST SPIN OF THE DAY:

Just heard some Democrat on Fox argue that the bounce in the TIME poll is misleading because the polling was done before the President's speech and it was so awful that it will drive down his numbers.

The DUH????

Look: The first half or so of the speech was, truthfully, nothing special. It was good but it wasn't fire-up-the-base material, if you know what I mean.

But then GWB got on to the war, and from then on, it was Katie bar the door. He was so damn good for the last 30 minutes or so that Mr. Kerry looked positively pitiful, not to mention petty, when he came on 40 minutes later.

_This_ is the spin the Democrats have decided on? The good God knows what their internals are showing them, because from what you say, Orrin, the GOP's internals have everyone from Karl R. on down in a tizzy of glee.

We'll see. However, it did include Zell Miller's speech, which the same pundits said was so scary that people would be diving under their bads. I'd love to hear just one Dem pundit tell us where the bounce came from (without somehow referencing mass voter delusion).

It's true that Miller's "Give 'em Zell!" speech scared quite a few people, fortunately the effect seems to have been limited to the punditocracy and Kerry campaign staff. The rest of the audience seems to have genuinely loved ol' Zell.

That's not spin. That's wobbling like one of those punching bags filled with sand at the bottom.

Bush didn't need to fire up the base. Cheney, Zell, Rudy and Arnold did that just fine.

Had he followed up Wednesday night's 'tough talk' (in the eyes of the girlymen of the punditocracy) with more tough talk, it would have been leaped on by the Crissy Matthewses of the world as being 'negative, because the Bush Administration lacks a positive message.' By talking about the future and what he wants to achieve, he showed that he has a positive message which can appeal across party lines. Can Kerry do the same?

It's time for John to make another Hail Mary pass at Lambert Field.

With Kerry, it would be a Hail Martha pass.

Lambert Field? Is that anywhere near "Yooka" Mountain?

Kerry really understands the country he wants to lead. He's read a lot about it.
