WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE DON'T HAVE A PLAN B?:
Voters have no choice on Iraq (ANDREW GREELEY, September 10, 2004, Chicago Sun-Times)
It would appear that the Vietnam War is an issue in the current election, but the Iraq war is not. Sen. John Kerry's service in Vietnam is subject to debate, though the lack of service of the president and the vice president apparently is not. But the ongoing war in Iraq has been ruled out of bounds. The senator asserts that he would have voted for the war resolution even if he had known that there were no weapons of mass destruction, and the president brags about his own success in the war. That means half of the American people who think the war was a mistake have little to choose between the two men.
Thus the inexorable drift into trying to Vietnamize the war by Mr. Kerry. They thought by being mealy-mouthed they could keep those who oppose the war and appeal to some who support it. Instead they've gotten no play from the supporters and the opponents have been made unenthusiastic about his candidacy. Posted by Orrin Judd at September 10, 2004 10:21 AM
Shouldn't the good father keep to things he knows about like child molestation.
Posted by: Bart at September 10, 2004 11:37 AMTut, tut, there's your anti-Catholicism again.
Posted by: oj at September 10, 2004 11:44 AMWhen the Church starts either paying taxes or stops complaining that I don't pay enough, then maybe I'll be interested in the opinion of some turbulent priest.
When the Church starts cooperating with the various District Attorneys around the nation concerning the pedophile priest scandal rather than stonewalling like a Clinton with his pants down, then maybe I'll be interested in the opinion of some nitwit in a dog collar.
When the Church apologizes for its behavior in the Ratline program to aid in allowing Nazis to escape justice or at least being the victims of a well-earned revenge and opens up all its archives to allow their inspection not just by a chosen few but to historians and to law-enforcement personnel around the world, then maybe I'll be interested in the opinion of some goober in a dress and a yarmulke.
I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. Under JPII we received cooperation from the Vatican during the Cold War. To me, this was identical to having to hold our nose and work with Stalin to defeat Hitler. That however does not make me ignorant or forgetful of the Vatican's history and its countless crimes against humanity.
You have the right to be a Catholic. I couldn't care, but I have to respect your choice. But that doesn't mean that I have to make the same one. And it does not mean that I have to give the opinions of Catholic clergy any deference whatsoever.

Your defense of evil is myopic, and ill-suits you.
Posted by: Michael Herdegen at September 11, 2004 4:50 PMReligion is evil or just Catholicism?
Posted by: oj at September 11, 2004 6:12 PMNeither.
What is evil, are the men guiding the Catholic Church.
They actively aided evil, and have not been replaced.
The rot goes all the way to the top.
If the Mormon rank-and-file ever found out that the Prophet was a child molester, we'd have a new Prophet overnight.
