THE KERRY DOMESTIC AGENDA:

Kerry Allies Take Shots at Bush, Cheney on Vietnam (Matea Gold and Nick Anderson, September 5, 2004, LA Times)

After being targeted for weeks by criticisms of his service in Vietnam and his later protests of the war, Sen. John F. Kerry looked on Saturday as a series of his supporters lambasted President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for avoiding combat service during those years.

Rep. Ted Strickland (D-Ohio) made the strongest attack at an evening rally here on the banks of the Ohio River, saying that Kerry "was carrying a gun through the jungles of Vietnam while George Bush was neglecting his military service and carrying out his responsibility as a cheerleader at Yale University."

They've been doing so well since the focus switched to Vietnam they've decided to keep it there?

It is very rude of them to fling such invective about while Bill Clinton awaits critical surgery and is unable to defend his Vietnam service.

"... carrying a gun through the jungles of Vietnam ..."
WTF -- Are they now claiming that Kerry re-upped after his Navy stint and was an Army grunt or a Marine jar-head on a third tour?

OJ, you probably should think about starting a contest to see who can write the best Kerry concession speech containing the greatest number of uses of the word "Vietnam" as possible (as in something like, "Even as I continued the fight when I returned from Vietnam against unjust policies of our government then, so shall I now continue the fight to prevent our government from creating another Vietnam that would take the lives of the youth of our nation. A Vietnam that would divert our nation's funds from health care. A Vietnam that would leave millions of uninsured and in poverty. A Vietnam that would...")

Kerry signed up for Vietnam 30 years ago, so obviously, not out of valor or courage, but so he could be President one day. And his service in Vietnam, and afterwards was deplorable. He became a fancy Michael Moore, and now it's coming back to haunt him. He must go to be every night bitter because he served his country, and he's still going to lose!!

I believe (I hope) that this stuff, especially after the RNC and positive Bush ads, will backfire and push Kerry even farther down in the polls.
