Bowing to intense pressure from European leaders and local feminist groups, Turkey's Islam-based ruling party on Tuesday shelved a plan to criminalize adultery, a proposal that had threatened to disrupt the country's bid to join the European Union.

Yes the US should try to pull Turkey (and the UK) away from the EU and into a US-NAFTA type arrangement. But I haven't seen much on this front - is it happening under the radar or is the US avoiding it to not alienate the EU (and in Turkey's case is the US still mad at Turkey over the Iraq situation?)

No reason to give more credence to the "ignored our allies" argument until after its useless, and we can point out, politely or no, that they're not really allies at all.
