THE STEREOTYPES JUST KEEP FALLING, HUH?:
Ex-Aide Says He Was Victim of McGreevey (LAURA MANSNERUS and DAVID KOCIENIEWSKI, 8/14/04, NY Times)
A former aide to Gov. James E. McGreevey of New Jersey identified himself Friday as the man with whom the governor had an extramarital affair, but said the relationship was far from consensual.Posted by Orrin Judd at August 14, 2004 9:54 AMThe former aide, Golan Cipel, issued a statement through his lawyer in Manhattan, saying that he had been subjected to sexual exploitation and retaliation by the governor and had suffered "emotional distress and turmoil."
"While employed by one of the most powerful politicians in the country, New Jersey Governor McGreevey, I was the victim of repeated sexual advances by him," the statement said. "I was the victim whose oppressor was one of the most powerful politicians who made sure to let me know that my future was in his hands."
The statement used the word victim four times, and in it Mr. Cipel said he "did not have the strength to disentangle myself from such an oppressive environment and from such a manipulative person."
A number of Jerseyites have told me that McGreevey was basically a corrupt Governor. OK, I am not there, so I'll take that as I hear it. Getting his due.
Is there anyone else here, not sympathetic to McGreevey, whose first reaction to this aspect of the story is to want to slap this whining, simpering, jellyfish of an alleged man, Golan Cipel, upside the head?
"Wahhhhhhhhhhh! I didn't have the 'strength' to 'distangle' myself from one of the worlds great tyrants, Jim McGreevey! Wahhhhhh!"
Shut up, you pathetic, weaselly little worm. Regardless of orientation, is it offensive to say "Act like a man, f'r Cripes sake."? Take your $110K per year payouts and trouble us no more.
How I loathe whiners.

Of course, if McGreevey teased him about pubic hair, well then......
Posted by: jim hamlen at August 14, 2004 10:13 AMAndrew X, sure I think the guy is a little baby; however, I don't feel for McGreevey at all. Remember, McCgreevey found this boy toy and hired him on the the head of homeland security for the state of New Jersey. The guy had zero experience. That is absolutely terrible on the part of McGreevey.
Do you remember where those guys who planned the first bombing of the WTC were living?
Posted by: pchuck at August 14, 2004 2:46 PMCorruption in the Land of Hague? Whoda thunk it?
Posted by: Harry Eagar at August 14, 2004 4:53 PMNo defense of McGreevey here. His attempt to resign "on Nov. 15th" shows him to be as cynical as they come.
It's just that listening to statements like Cipel's lawyer made has about the same effect on me as fingernails dragged across a blackboard..... while at the same time a red hot needle is jabbed through both my eardrums.
A pox on all involved.
Posted by: Andrew X at August 14, 2004 6:20 PMHey, if McGreevey had had his way, Cipel would have been paid a little over $2,000 a week to be the governor's boy-toy. And it wasn't as if Cipel himself backout of the homeland security job -- if it hadn't been for Republican complaints and press reports about so obvious a misuse of the new position, just seven months after Sept. 11, he would have happily taken the money to render a service that I don't believe was outlined in the federal homeland security measures passed in the fall of 2001 (if it had been, no doubt there would be far fewer complaints today on the left about John Ashcroft's Patriot Act).
