MEMORY HOLE:
SEPTEMBER SURPRISE: Tom Ridge has announced that September is National Preparedness Month -- and it's not political? (Bob Harris, 8/12/04, AlterNet)
Let's all put our heads together and see if we can figure out why America would make September National Preparedness Month?
Posted by Orrin Judd at August 13, 2004 9:18 AMI'm guessing it's related to the 3rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. But that's just me.
Posted by: Kay at August 13, 2004 11:28 AMI guess Bush engineered the attacks of three years ago so they would take place in September and he could have an excuse to schedule National Preparedness Month close to the election.
It all makes sense!
Posted by: Matt Murphy at August 13, 2004 11:30 AMC'mon folks -- given that life is generally unpredictable (that's what insurance is for), and that bad things (earthquakes, ice storms, hurricanes, tornados, gas main explosions, etc) happen unexpectedly, preparedness should be a feature of DAILY discussions. We Americans pretend that bad things happen to somebody else and spend very little time dealing with the world of physical reality. Devoting 30 days a year to facing the facts is kind of refreshing!
