BUGGERY UBER ALLES?:

Instant hero in gay community (FERNANDA SANTOS, 8/13/04, NY DAILY NEWS)

It didn't take lnog after New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey came out on national TV for gays everywhere to hail him as their newfound hero.

Friends called and E-mailed friends, heralding the news and repeating the line, "I am a gay American" as if it was a war cry.

"Listen, people, it's okay to be gay," said Dion James, 28, who was shopping in Chelsea. "Gov. McGreevey just turned this into a great day for every gay man and woman in this country."

At the same time, though, many gays were disappointed with the governor's decision to resign, saying McGreevey should have stayed put and weathered the storm.

Is that really the best they can do for a hero, one who confirms just about every negative stereotype? Probably.

Let's see here: He's married, but chose to have an affair. He gives his paramour a plum job ($100,000 yearly) on the taxpayers nickel, although it appears that said paramour wasn't qualified for the position, and couldn't get security clearance anyway.

This guy is a hero?

Well, when your comptetition is Barney Franks, Gerry Studds, Pim Fotuyn, etc. the bar is set pretty low.

Worse, the job given the paramour is a Homeland Security job for which he's unqualified, thereby opening up NJ, and potentially the whole rest of the country to terrorist activity.

Real freakin' heroic.

Maybe I’m reaching here, but might the downfall of the Left, or at least a seriously rocky road, be in store, based upon their relentless demand/desire to place “feelings” above all, and having utterly atrophied into non-existence their ability to think strategically? Case in point: It was within 60 minutes of McGreevy’s announcement that pundits publicly, and all of us privately, concluded that McGreevy could have survived this politically, even come out ahead (he IS a Democrat, after all). Thus, we all know, this resignation is not about his being gay. It is about likely severe misconduct, where homosexual activity is tangled up but rather low on the list of wrongdoings (culturally speaking).

But an unqualified person, given $110K a year for a TERROR SECURITY position, based on a sexual affair!?!?!?

And now of course, “activists” (feh), jump on his victimology bandwagon with out a second thought about the horrendous ramifications of what it appears really occurred here. They have a new hero, who is about to be hung from a lamppost for his appalling professional misconduct.

Brilliant thinking, folks. Again.

I think he queered the case for gay marriage.

Is it "stereotyping" to harbor an apprehension that homosexuals in positions of suthority may behave as this man has done? Contrary to modern usage, not all prejudice is invidious.

Lou - yes, and this is exactly why spies aren't allowed to be homosexual, because it sets up easy blackmail opportunities. Of course heteros can get blackmailed too in the same way, but at one time the public embarrassment factor was way way higher for an uncovered homosexual liason than it apparently is today. My $.02 anyway.

Well, most people probably only saw the headlines, which referred to him coming out, but nothing about him being a hopelessly corrupt crook. The media is making the story all about his being homosexual. He needs to be sent to jail by the state, or to the hospital by his wife.

Sample headlines:

NY Times: NJ Governor Quits, Citing Affair With Man

CNN: NJ governor resigns; admits gay affair

MSNBC: "I am a gay American."

ABC News: "Gay American"

WaPo: NJ Governor Resigns - Also admits he's a "gay American"

Phila Enquirer: NJ Governor Resigns, Citing Gay Affair

Not a hint of political corruption. Most people will think he was forced out because of his sexuality. Just another victim of the vast right wing conspiracy.

Jeff-- currently spies are allowed to be homosexual. They just aren't allowed to be in the closet about it.

Andrew's hammock must be spinning over this one (presuming he recovered from the MO results).
