KERRY ON TECH
Kerry's real tech agenda (Declan McCullagh, CNET News.com, 8/2/2004)
The Democratic National Convention is over, some $65 million has been spent on a week-long party in Boston, and what do we now know about John Kerry? The Massachusetts senator barely mentioned technology in his convention speech, except to marvel at ever-shrinking microchips and implore everyone to visit JohnKerry.com. That's not much to work with.
So let's take a look at what Kerry was doing before he announced his bid for the White House--long before the usual phalanx of speech writers and marketing consultants began filtering his public statements into something that resembles the texture and flavor of Velveeta.

I serve Velveeta. I know Velveeta. Velveeta is a friend of mine. John Kerry is no Velveeta.
Posted by: Guy T. at August 4, 2004 11:33 AMBut didn't he say he believes in science?
Posted by: Rick T. at August 4, 2004 12:16 PMSomehow, I think associating Kerry and Velveeta is about the most insulting thing one could say to him (and especially to Teresa).

Posted by: homer at August 4, 2004 12:47 PMThe great thing about Velveeta is that it's smooth as it melts down.

Just like John Kerry! Not like Howard Dean who gets all clotted and oily when he melts down.
Posted by: Governor Breck at August 4, 2004 1:12 PMWell, what can any President do about tech, for good or ill ?
They can be a tech booster, (Bush), or talk about how the environment is being degraded by modern life, (Gore), that's about it.
Congress is really the branch that can most hurt/help business spending on tech, or research.
