HUMANITARIANISM IS THE WAR ON TERROR:

Liberia's Taylor gave aid to Qaeda, UN probe finds (Bryan Bender, August 4, 2004, Boston Globe)

The senior Al Qaeda operative captured in Pakistan last week met with former Liberian president Charles Taylor in the years before and after Sept. 11, 2001, and received refuge from the former US ally while planning further terrorist operations, according to US intelligence officials and United Nations investigators.

One of the less noticed of the--at least six--regime changes the Administration has brought about, but obviously as worthwhile as the rest.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Liberia, Haiti... who am I missing?

Someone should ask Taylor's good pal Jesse Jackson about this:

Timothy:

Libya.
Also, Spain.

However, I don't think that Haiti should be attributed to any US policies. As far as I understand it, it was a strictly internally driven matter.

Or, if we are to attribute it to American meddling, it was the Clinton administration's actions that mattered.

Libya, Haiti...

Aristide claims he was kidnapped by American soldiers, and I, for one, am happy to let dictators around the world believe him.
Clinton, on the other hand, put Aristide in power.

Can you really call Lybia a "regime change" so much as a "regime frightened that it will get changed?"

The son seems to be calling the shots.

Sounds more like succession than change.

Half-credit, at most, for Liberia.

Shoot, as long as you're handing out laurels, why not credit Bush for Congo, too?

It doesn't have the same regime it had when he came in.

We ignored Congo. We forced Taylor & Aristide out, just as we forced Arafat to name PMs, who are helping destabilize his regime.
