US: Israel may strike Iranian nuclear plants (JPost.com, May. 8, 2004)
Israel may be preparing to attack Iranian nuclear facilities within the year, according to US administration assessments reported on Army Radio Saturday morning. [...]The UPI news service says President George Bush and Prime Minster Ariel Sharon recently discussed the subject at their most recent meeting. Following the meeting, Bush said it was inconceivable for the Middle East for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

How about a joint operation? Let Israel provide the cover, by flying in a few fighters, and take the inevitable blame, while we covertly use our B1s, B2s, and cruise missiles for the real work.
Posted by: jd watson at May 10, 2004 5:29 PMThere is no possible way that Israel could do this without our knowledge, so it ain't gonna happen. I agree that WE should take out anything that Iran has that might conceivably be related to building nukes, and do it yesterday.
There is actually one way I could imagine us letting Israel do this, and that is after a Kerry win in November, but before the change in administration...Like I said, ain't gonna happen.

Posted by: oj at May 10, 2004 8:30 PMWe should pay, huge aid, to Israel to do it. Or do it ourselves. Somebody will have to do it, sometime. But only after Bush gets a resolution passed in US Congress condemning Iran for seeking nukes.
This one is ours. It is out of range for the Israeli F-16's with out refuling support and passage from Jordan. We can bring BUFF's from Diego Garcia and do it ourselves.
