ARE WE SURE HIS INITIALS AREN'T GRF?

Kerry uninjured in fall from bicycle (AP, 5/2/04)

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry took a spill from his bicycle while riding Sunday afternoon but was not injured, a campaign official said.

Kerry was riding with Secret Service agents through Concord, about 18 miles north of Boston, when his bike hit a patch of sand and he fell, campaign officials said.

"He's fine. They took the bike into the bike shop and he went home," said campaign spokesman Michael Meehan.

Kerry was in Massachusetts -- he has a home in Boston -- enjoying a break from the campaign trail. It was not immediately clear on what road in Concord he was biking.

Kerry, 60, rides his bicycle as often as he can and sometimes brings it with him on the campaign plane.

Alert Secret Service agents wrestled the bike to the ground.

He didn't curse at secret service agent? Maybe he's getting soft.

After the ski slope incident, he'll just brush this one off and say it reminded him of when he fell off his speedboat when he beached it in the sand while going in to rescue a group of pinned down soliders in Vietnam...

"Kerry was in Massachusetts -- he has a home in Boston -- ..."

Wow! Imagine that! A Senator who actually has a home in the state he represents!

Bicycles are transportation only when the alternative is going on foot. Otherwise they, like skiing, are toys for adults. (Saying this as someone who used to who put about thousand km a summer on my bike, mostly on the same 3km stretch of asphalt.)

So what other toys are we going to see the Senator fall from?

So, did he put in for another Purple Heart?

Remember how W falling off a Segway was supposedly either proof that he's a moron or part of a plot to prevent them from becoming popular and cutting into oil usage?

And want to bet that if Bush fell off this bicycle, the writer would have made it a point to say that it was a $5,000+ bicycle?

By the way, the link to the original story is wrong.

The link should now work.

For a guy who doesn't fall down, he seems to do so an awful lot.

This is another Bob Dole moment. Remember when Dole fell off the stage in the 1996 campaign?

I wonder if Kerry "overintellectualized" the patch of sand when he was riding? Ya know, he is so smart and W is so stupid.
