Things are nip & tuck now @ 10:00 PM Eastern. . . .
Posted by: Twn at November 15, 2003 10:11 PMAppears that Blanco will win handily. What is it that's always getting said around here about people feeling more comfortable with the dumber candidate?
Posted by: AC at November 15, 2003 10:34 PMWell, someone else here predicted that Jindal would lead until the afternoon, then would be suddenly turned back by a flood of votes. That seems to be the most accurate prediction I've seen.
Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at November 15, 2003 10:52 PMYep. Looks they knew their LA machine politics!!
Well, 48% to 52% isn't bad, for a brown Republican in Louisiana.
Posted by: Twn at November 15, 2003 11:09 PMIt appears Jindel is going to lose a close one. This is bad news, especially when polls showed him up by up to 9pts only a few days ago.
Similar to '02, when the demoralized Dems were reinvigorated by the LA senate win, this may reinvigorate the Dems after losing CA, KY, and MS. The real bad news would be if this convinces Breaux to seek reelection and not retire, taking a potential pickup away from the GOP.
This is a tough loss no matter how you spin it. It is a pick-up for the Democrats. The black vote just kills the GOP. In addition, Louisiana is a really strange place. Tis a pity, Jindal sounds like a really great guy with a bright future.
Posted by: pchuck at November 16, 2003 1:57 AMAWW - If Louisiana is going to elect Dems regardless, isn't it good if Breaux runs again? After Zell Miller, he's about the best Dem we have in the Senate.
Posted by: pj at November 16, 2003 9:31 AMPJ - Perhaps, but I've seen articles noting that Breaux has a moderate, conservative Dem reputation but his voting record is more liberal than that (not in Kennedy terrority but not as conservative as Miller's)
