One site is saying the word is being leaked is that he is not stepping down.

Let's hope their wrong - otherwise Bush et all will have to forceably remove him

Trent Lott. I don't think he's dumb, but he is thick.

I don't need to hear another Patsy Cline song. Just step down, already.

The Democrats will be making a serious strategic error if they force Lott out. No one could wish for a more ineffective opponent. In exchange for a quick high of dethroning the pork-schmoozing Lott, they'll get someone far more effective and agenda-centered like Nickles or McConnell.



Better they had kept the volume down for the moment and used this little trump card down the road to bend Lott to their will.

so Lott doesn't resign, offering more half-hearted apologies. It seems clear he won't step aside. Other GOPers, particularly the president will have to step up or they will see the next Congress and hopes for 2004 dashed as Lott is even more ineffective than before.
