WHO WANTS A CLEAN HOUSE!:

New horizon: With their latest album, Bedouin Soundclash have taken their band back (Ben Kaplan, Sept. 27, 2010, National Post)

It wasn’t long ago that the mechanization behind being a big rock band almost tore Bedouin Soundclash apart. While performing with Gwen Stefani on a stadium tour of Japan two years ago, the group had finally decided to pack it in for good.

“We’d lost control on every level -- creatively, spiritually -- and had a moment where we said, ‘We’re not going to do this as it is now any more,’ ” says singer Jay Malinowski, 28, in a downtown Toronto coffee shop, not far from the funky Kensington Market neighbourhood where he lives. “I knew that we had to change everything, and in October 2008, we cleaned house.”

In some ways, the reggae-infused indie rock group became victims of their own success. After the song When the Night Feels My Song from their second record became an international smash, the band ceded control of the group they had formed over a musical friendship at Queens University in their teens.
