HONESTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE TOLERANT:
NPR fires Juan Williams over remark on Muslims (Jennifer Harper, 10/21/10, The Washington Times)
In a segment with Fox News talk show host Bill O'Reilly, Mr. Williams admitted to feeling "nervous" in the wake of the September 11 attacks when he sees Muslims board a plane on which he is traveling.Posted by Orrin Judd at October 21, 2010 4:18 PM"Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous," Mr. Williams said.
He went on to argue to Mr. O'Reilly that such individual fears, however real, did not justify a more general prejudice or discrimination against Muslims as a group.
