CONDI TIME:

Dick Cheney enters hospital for annual checkup (The Associated Press, July 12, 2008)

It was always inevitable they'd find a way to ease him out so W could name the first black/female vp.

Too late in the game for it to matter to McCain, but a nice idea anyway.

Eh, you've been predicting this every couple of months for the last our years.

The real problem, of course, is that there's no way Dr. Rice could be confirmed as Vice President. It simply isn't possible in the present political environment. If the purpose was to grind Congress to a complete halt, that would be a good way to do it. Unfortunately there are things that need to be done, even if done badly.

What I think would be fun would go like this: Cheney resigns. After screaming contortions Condi is confirmed as Vice President. Then, as soon as the elections are over, Bush resigns -- leaving Dr. Rice as President. It's a stunt. It would only be for two months, and President Rice would be barely a footnote after not too long. But wouldn't it be delicious?

Regards,
Ric

I have little doubt that you'll still be predicting this on January 19, 2009.

I'd love to see Congress grind to a halt over the naming of a black woman as caretaker VP for a few months. What would you expect from the party of slavery, succession and segregation?

It would show just how nasty and petty the Dems really are. Unfortunately, we all know the Stupid Party Candidate and all those down ticket would fail to use this sort of thing to their advantage.

Gimmicks would do nothing but harm to the GOP at this point, especially since a good percentage of core voters would not be comfortable with a woman VP.

Very bad idea.

She'd skate through--Barry has chick problems as is.

Nixon, Agnew, Bush, Quayle, Cheney... She'd be the most comfortable they've felt.

Rice will be sworn in as VP the day after Mookie's triumphant return to Baghdad.

They haven't fast-tracked his mullahhood that much in Qom, unless Jeb runs with her in '12.
