The study piles fresh pressure on the Prime Minister to abandon the treaty in the wake of Ireland’s rejection of it in a referendum last week.Posted by Orrin Judd at June 17, 2008 4:30 PMAccording to a YouGov poll carried out after the Irish result was announced on Friday, 54 per cent of British voters now believe the Government should drop the Lisbon Treaty - which would sweep away dozens of national vetoes - and not try to ratify it.
Only 14 per cent of those questioned agreed that the Government should carry on and ratify the controversial agreement, which would also create a new European president and foreign minister.
If the Oxbridge types actually cared about public opinion this would mean something. The first party to give the middle finger to Oxbridge and address popular opinion will gain a devestating majority.
Which party will see that first, I wonder?
Posted by: Mikey at June 17, 2008 7:14 PMKRS - The US Constitution provides a procedure by which states can join the Union; it does not provide a procedure for states to leave. How can a state leave in any manner that is not extra-constitutional? The constitution would have to amended to provide that procedure.

Why don't they do polls like that in the States? I'd love to see which States would secede this time around. My bets are on TX, CA, HI & maybe MN.
