McCain to challenge Obama to additional debates (Jonathan Martin, 6/04/08, Politico)

John McCain will use the first day of the general election to propose additional debates or joint forums beyond the three sanctioned for this fall, according to a McCain source.

At a town hall meeting and press conference in Baton Rouge later this morning, the Republican nominee will make his case for why there should be more engagement between he and Barack Obama.

Because Senator Obama is a disaster when he's off script.

I've been trying to make the point to some people that Obama is a worse public speaker than Bush. Bush at least recognizes his weakness and uses it to disarm his opponents. Obama thinks he's the reincarnation of JFK and MLK. Obama is only a good speaker when he's got a script and has had time to rehearse. But anyone can be a good public speaker under those circumstances. When he has to improv and work off the cuff, holy cow, it's so painful I get stomach cramps.

Then they will script the debates. Obama will get to say whatever was written down beforehand in response to any question.

Who's going to point out that he's not answering questions - the media?

Obama's sole strength as a speaker is his debt to the Reverend Wright, he picked up the cadences of the church. It disguises the vacuity of his written addresses at least.

Listen closely to Obama's "uplifting" speeches and it's all about bread lines and sickness and unemployment and environmental disaster. Very negative leftish boilerplate. Some perspective: I just checked Pennsylvania's unemployment rate today. It's 4.9 percent. I'd assumed it was 10 percent after all that Hillary/Obama whining during the primary. When it comes to speech delivery, Obama crushes McCain. But McCain will win most of the debates when the messiah can't channel his script writer.

Especially, jaytee, when asked to comment on Sen. McCain's statement.

I know one septuagenarian who will not vote for Sen. Obama, G-D America was too much for him.

The blogosphere is different, that bucket of fertilizer has not yet hit the air distribution device yet for most people. When it does, wear your foul weather gear.

Where's the evidence he's adapt at even that kind of "debating"?

The media adulation of Obama and beginning of the attacks on McCain yesterday were nausiating. And only 5 more months of this.
