HE'D BE A SHOE-IN FOR EU PRESIDENT:
Religion a powerful predictor of support for McCain over Obama (Gallup Guru, 2/28/08, USA Today)
Our recent analysis of a head to head matchup between McCain and Obama among likely voters shows a dramatic difference based on religiosity. Among those likely voters who attend church on a weekly basis, 58% support McCain while 36% support Obama. Among those who attend almost every week or monthly, McCain still wins 55% to 40%. But among the group of Americans who attend seldom or never, it’s a major shift: 58% support Obama while 37% would support McCain. [...]And there is a major educational skew. Obama wins 54% to 40% among American voters with a post graduate degree. His support drops as education drops, down to the point where he loses to McCain 56% to 37% among Americans who have a high school education or less.
Appealing to secular intellectuals in American elections is how Democrats stopped winning the presidency. Since they first nominated Adlai they've only elected a guy whose Catholicism was the main topic of the campaign and two Southern Evangelicals. Posted by Orrin Judd at March 3, 2008 5:21 PM
