THE MESSIANISM OF THE SELF:

From an Obama campaign Talking Points e-mail:

Make no mistake about it, Super Tuesday was a super day for this campaign and a victory for the power of the American spirit. As Barack so eloquently stated in his speech last night:

"We are who we were waiting for!"

One need not question the sincerity of the Senator's Christian faith to point out that his eschatology is [flubb]ed. Not to mention that, as our correspondent points out, it makes him sound hauntingly like this other eloquent leader of men:

And Obama is going to let Hillary off the hook.

Al Sharpton was here in NC last week, trying to prop up a crooked black candidate for sheriff who gamed the 'selection process' after the 30-year veteran retired. It was interesting to see him, giving a good rabble-rousing speech, surrounded by all the local black icons and elected officials, invoking all the old cliches. He looked old, older than Charlie Rangel (who is almost 80, I believe).

How he must envy Obama, who raised $32 million in a few days, and who very soon will formally be called the heir of JFK, whether he wins or loses the nomination.

"We are who we were waiting for!"

Where does he go next? The Rubicon? Golgotha? The psych ward? Disney World? Very strange.
