HE WAS JUST IN IT FOR THE ADULATION:

Giuliani falls far, fast: His decision to abandon early-voting states looks like a 'major strategic blunder,' observers say. Even in Florida -- his campaign linchpin -- he has dropped sharply in polls. (Michael Finnegan, 1/24/08, Los Angeles Times)

With time running short, no sign of a turnaround has emerged. He has lost his front-runner's perch in California, a new Field Poll has found. Other surveys show sharp drops for Giuliani in Florida, New Jersey and New York, his home state.

All but ignored as rivals John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee have racked up victories, the normally combative former New York mayor has taken an uncharacteristically subdued approach to recovery.

When it ran out so did he.

i've thought this through and I have a theory. His so-called strategy of basically ignoring the first five primaries and putting his all into Florida was a red-herring. I don't remember ever hearing about that 2 months ago. I think he came up with this strategy because he always knew he couldn't win, so why not gamble with a plan that passes, to a certain degree, the sniff test, while at the same time when he falls flat on his face instead of saying he just plain got beat he can blame it on the strategy. I hate to say this, ut maybe that's what he did 8 years ago against Hilary. It flies in the face of his successful campaigns to become Mayor, but, in taking a saner look and just examining the facts without my adulation for Rudy, it's appears I've been balooped by him. Shame on me.
