THAT'LL SET DEGAULLE SPINNING:

Sarkozy, in speech to U.S. Congress, says friendship and alliance is strong (The Associated Press, November 6, 2007)

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, opening a new, cozier chapter in relations with the United States, assured an embracing Congress Wednesday that "our friendship and our alliance is strong."

Sarkozy also told lawmakers that such improved relations should lead to much closer cooperation on a host of international problems including Iran's nuclear program, Middle East peace and the stability of Lebanon.

The French president entered and left the chamber in the U.S. Capitol building to rousing standing ovations_ an indication that Sarkozy has quickly shifted the mood in French-American relations in his first six months in office.

Sarkozy came to Washington seeking to restore the kind of relationship that existed between Paris and Washington before sharp differences arose over the U.S.-led war in Iraq. And he repeatedly stressed his message of bilateral cooperation.

Seems to me that Bush has done a nice job in forging alliances with European leaders. He has a good relationship with Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel and now Nicolas Sarkozy.

He's turning out to be quite the diplomat, although you won't read it in the New York Times or hear it on NBC.

And lets not forget how he has gotten Libya and North Korea to disarm it's nukes without having to fire a single shot.

Le travail de nice Monsoir el President.

The French must be reeling. Wasn't it just last week that they were at war with Oceania?

Or was it yesterday? Or last month? Or last year?
