Immigration over the past seven years was the highest for any seven-year period in U.S. history, bringing 10.3 million new immigrants, more than half of them without legal status, according to an analysis of census data released by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington.

One in eight people living in the United States is an immigrant, the survey found, for a total of 37.9 million people, the highest level since the 1920s.

Sure, that happened in the past, but with lower numbers and without welfare and multiculturalism.

Yes, they used to come to an America where the natives weren't quite so soft. But it's a welfare state now.

No, there was far greater multiculturalism then.

Maybe in some general social sense, not in the sense of multiculturalism enforced by local, state, and federal law. And no bank teller ever asked me if I wanted to speak English, but every ATM does.

Exactly. Then there was genuine multiculturalism. Now there's so little pols have to try and create some. Mass media made it impossible to maintain distinct cultures.

PapayaSF:

That we tolerate the left-wing variety of "multiculturalism" is our fault, not theirs.
