WOW!:

Braves trade Renteria to Detroit (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 10/30/07)

The Braves have traded shortstop Edgar Renteria to the Detroit Tigers for two prospects, centerfielder Gorkys Hernandez and right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens.

Obviously a win-now trade for the Tigers, but Renteria looked so lost in the AL they may still have overpaid.

I still don't understand why Guillen had to be moved to first, but if you're not willing to pay for A-Rod, I can't imagine landing a better shortstop. They now have a 1-4 of Renteria, Polanco, Sheffield, and Ordonez, all .300 hitters, and the next three, Guillen, Pudge and Granderson, aren't easy outs either. The rotation is solid with Verlander, Bonderman, Robertson, and the up and coming Miller. A healthy Zumaya and Rodney will resolidify the bullpen. The Tigers are in a pretty good position to displace either Cleveland or the Yanks for the playoffs.
