rEALISM TRUMPS REALITY:

Israeli seeks Hamas participation (BBC, 10/24/07)

An Israeli minister has called on his government to suspend a boycott of Hamas and invite the group to an upcoming Middle East conference.

Minister without portfolio Ami Ayalon said any invitation would be conditional on Hamas pledging to accept agreements reached at the summit. [...]

"Such a call by Israel would cause Hamas to crumble because of the internal struggles taking place within the group," Mr Ayalon told Israeli army radio.

If people were capable of grasping that simple truth, the US and Israel would have recognized Palestinian statehood when Hamas won the election.

And were Hamas to "crumble" what would take its place?

Hamas will evolve into a normal religious party, like the GOP.

But will they take to repairing sewers with the same gusto as they show in blowing up Jews?

Israeli stand-up at its very best. So funny, in fact, that Hamas is probably trying to read between the lines to figure out what the punch-line really is (He can't really have meant it, can he?) and, when they figure out he's not really joking, merely bristle at his lame attempt at humor (and lob over a few more missiles, which is the sort of humor they specialize in).

In any event, we all know that Hamas is so eager to crumble that they'll happily accede to Ayalon's jocular suggestion!!

as Mossad points out, Hamas is the one Palestinian organization they trust to follow through on its word.

They won the election on sewerage, not sabotage.

Sabotage.....an interesting euphemism for mass murder.

All I have read in the past few weeks about Gaza and Hamas indicates that they are reaching some sort of denouement with respect to governance - the citizenry is unhappy with the squalor, and the leadership is struggling to decide how to run the place. They probably don't have long to wait, because terror and hatred will fill the vacuum, especially with all the Saudi and Iranian money flowing that way.

Mass? How many Israelis have been killed in the war of Palestinian independence?
