Bin laden 'virtually impotent' (Press Association, Sep 9, 2007)

Osama bin Laden is "virtually impotent" and does not appear to be triggering a new attack against the US despite the release of a videotape with his first message in a year, President George W Bush's homeland security adviser has said.

"This is about the best he can do," Frances Fragos Townsend said about the fugitive al Qaida leader whose terrorist network is believed to be regrouping in the lawless Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

"This is a man on a run, from a cave, who's virtually impotent other than these tapes," she said.

Who are these idiots trying to kid? Uncle Osama suddenly appears, shorter, fatter, with a darker beard (do they have Grecian Formula in those caves?) babbling Democratic Party campaign rhetoric. And then they say that they have verified the tape.

Who verified it, some hack in the White House basement? Well, if anyone was dumb enough to believe the administration before on this stuff, even the most gullible WW2 veteran isn't going to fall for this one.

Who knew Dick Sargent was still acting.

Grecian formula? How about dialysis? They got that in those caves too.

OBL doesn't count, one way or the other. He could have been killed years ago, today,or tomorrow: it matters not.

What does matter is that the failed policies of the moon god be further discredited and the final reformation brought nearer.

Two words Emmanuel Goldstein

W never said OBL was still breathing. When asked he said it didn't matter wrt GWOT. And he's right.

the man on the video tape was Red Green I tell ya.

I guess calling Bin Laden names is supposed to be a substitute for killing him.

I have a theory about OBL. I call it the "Dread Pirate Roberts" theory. Remember the movie "Princess Bride"? "The Dread Pirate Roberts" was actually several different men. The leading man Westley became the third Dread Pirate Roberts, and the original was "retired 20 years, and living like a king in Patagonia." In the movie, Westley explains: "it was the name that inspired the necessary fear... Once the crew believed, I was the Dread Pirate Roberts!"

I think this is about the 2nd or 3rd 'incarnation' of OBL. He has had at least one stand-in. Like the Dread Pirate Roberts, it's the name that inspires the fear, and it's the name (and close-look-alike image) that the media uses to "nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah" the U.S. government, and fight their fifth-column effort against the War on Islamofascist Terror in general.

If it was Red Green, where was the duct tape?

Bin Laden seems alive to me, because the transcript seems contemporary and I doubt Al Qaeda is doing special effects or using doubles and yet not getting the beard right. He's just dyed it, not an unknown thing in that cultural apparently, and who's going to tell him not to? I'd bet loony terror bosses rarely get frank advice from underlings.

The video is laughable. It freezes frame every time the voice says something contemporary. A 12-yr old using Final Cut could have sync'ed it better.

What I don't understand is why the media seems to be buying it.

You mean the same guys who buy into "fake but accurate" documents on a regular basis, right?

Drudge reports that another video is being released.

When I was a kid, I had an uncle who fought in WWII. He used to scare the bejezzus out of me with stories about how no one knew what became of Hitler. No one in the west really knew until the Russians came clean in the early 90s.

In Bin Laden's case the proof really is in the pudding... before the battle at Tora Bora, he was making 2 videos a week... after that battle he hasn't made a half dozen in 4 years and none pass the smell test. Dead.

Posted by: lebeaux at September 10, 2007 10:35 AM

Its not that hard. Just have him show up with a contemporary newspaper/magazine. The fact that they don't means he's dead.
