LAZY NATIVES:

Help Wanted Ads Go Unanswered in West (MATT GOURAS, 8/25/07, Associated Press)

The owner of a fast food joint in Montana's booming oil patch found himself outsourcing the drive-thru window to a Texas telemarketing firm, not because it's cheaper but because he can't find workers.

Record low unemployment across parts of the West has created tough working conditions for business owners, who in places are being forced to boost wages or be creative to fill their jobs.

John Francis, who owns the McDonald's in Sidney, Mont., said he tried advertising in the local newspaper and even offered up to $10 an hour to compete with higher-paying oil field jobs. Yet the only calls were from other business owners upset they would have to raise wages, too. Of course, Francis' current employees also wanted a pay hike.

"I don't know what the answer is," Francis said. "There's just nobody around that wants to work."

Welll, shucks, pardner, don't you know they used to have to pay high wages during the gold rush?

No labor shortage, only an exploitation shortage, whereby an oppressive employer wisahes to pay less for labor that the market ordains.

The problem can only get worse when people can hang around outside the clubs and bars and sell their (alcohol-free) breath for $10 a pop to patrons who wish to drive home.

A fixed market.

Ain't the free market a bitch?

And when things go bust (and they will), those same employers will do everything they can to pay as little as possible to their fry-cooks, and have long lines of people willing to take those few jobs. Welcome to economics!

Which in Juddworld, where everything which isn't explicitly permitted is criminal, just means the Judgement Machines and Their Masters will just have to be even more obtrusive to catch those who in a free society would be a rare lawbreaker.

As soon as costs start getting passed on to consumers the nativists will be quashed.

The cost structure always gets past to the consumer. Walmart is successful for that reason - (even though elites hate it).

This is why immigration must be controlled, the free labor is too corrupting.

No, it's why Wal-Mart employs so many illegals and exploits foreign labor.
