IT MUST BE THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST:

Gonzales resigns as attorney general: official (Reuters, August 27, 2007)

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned from office, an official confirmed on Monday.

Surprising he didn't wait until Friday evening, when no one would notice, instead of few.

I hope the president makes an interim appointment and doesn't allow the clowns to go through their antics again.

The President is clearing the decks of his most incompetent boobs in a last push for poll numbers.

Too bad he can't reverse such stupid moves as DHS, Chertoff, and installing the in-bred nattering nabobs of nepotism he's stocked his once promising administration with.

Bruno: "The President is clearing the decks of his most incompetent boobs in a last push for poll numbers."

After 6 1/2 years of the Bush presidency, how can you possibly think that this is a man who gives a fig about poll numbers?

DHS, which broke the Civil Service, is one of his great achievements, though the Department itself is useless.

b,

Great point, as I've made it often myself.

OTOH, with the surge/war spending coming up for a vote, it would be bad to lose enough support and/or votes to lost a fall vote on the war.

Even some one who doesn't care about polls needs votes to move legislation. (or block it)

OJ,

please explain/link how the civil service was "broken." Further, corruption in outsourcing is just as expensive as payroll bloat in Gov. - particularly when there is no oversight of how contractors are chosen.

Corruption doesn't matter, benefits do.
