BECAUSE BAD CHOICES SHOULD HAVE CONSEQUENCES:
GOP Senators Say Craig Should Resign (DAVID ESPO, 8/29/07, AP)
Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's political support eroded significantly Wednesday as three fellow Republicans in Congress called for his resignation and party leaders pushed him from senior committee posts. The White House expressed its disappointment, too—and nary a word of support for the 62-year-old lawmaker, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to a charge stemming from an undercover police operation in an airport men's room.
Good luck though finding a non-squirrely Idahoan. Posted by Orrin Judd at August 29, 2007 4:35 PM
GOP Senators are much less likely to call for resignations if the Senatorial miscreant in question comes from a state with a Democratic governor. (see David Vitter)

Sheez...

Posted by: Jorge Curioso at August 29, 2007 5:12 PMEd Morrissey pointed out that Patrick Kennedy's messy DUI last year created little or no calls for resignation on the D side.
Posted by: Gideon at August 29, 2007 5:56 PMYou mean, if the miscreant is straight.

Pretty rich, coming from someone from the part of the country that's, over the past few years, given us Bob Smith, Sununu, the Maine Twins, Leahy, Jeffords and Saunders. (And where to begin with the Congressional contributions of the other three states just to the south.)

Posted by: oj at August 29, 2007 9:52 PMI don't think you can blame Orrin for nutjobs that aren't from his state. Leahy, Jefford and Sanders(?) are all Vermont reps (much to my embarassment). And "over the past few years" is pretty innacurate too. Jeffords and Leahy were in Congress for 30 years, so it's not like they've just sprung upon the national scene and Saint Bernard has been a politcal player in the PDRVT for more years than I've been alive.

Only part of the state. The part of the state where I lived was mostly full of Mormons.
Posted by: R. Alex at August 30, 2007 9:45 AMA guilty plea to disorderly conduct certainly does not operate as an admission to the charge of lewd conduct. D.O. is usually a non-traffic summary, or whatever they call petty offenses in this or that jurisdiction. Rather on the order of jaywalking, or keeping out a library book.
I think the guy is a disgusting queer and he should resign, but for being a disgusting queer, not for pleading to the legal equavalent of a traffic ticket.
